BOSTON 13.1 MARATHON SERIES 2010

Early in the race...I'm still smirking...

Chugging along...

Feeling good at mile 10

Still flying...yeah, I'm a goofball.

Red-lining the engine with about a mile to go

Just catching the guy I had been chasing for the last 1/4 mile

Official Time - 1:33:47 - 41st of 2682 finishers, 4th of 194 men in their 40's
BOSTON RUN TO REMEMBER HALF MARATHON 2010

PROVIDENCE MARATHON 2010

It all started rather pleasantly...60°, light, cool breeze

I was waving at the photographers and onlookers...

Yes, it was all rather nice...

But then the sun decided to come out...

...and pushed the temperature up to 85°

plus, running along the water brought the humidity up too...

things were getting less fun...

You can see the pain on the face...a moment of "What the Frak am I doing here?"

But then I saw the finish line

Found a burst of energy

...and finished strong...albeit with sloppy form...3:30:11...a new PR!!! (2nd in 13 days)
BOSTON MARATHON 2010

My view looking for the starting line...it's over the hill

My view behind me at the start...I was one of the last starters

Somewhere around mile 10

Taking on the Newton Hills

A quick hello to the family around mile 19 or 20

My #1 fan...the older daughter

There the CITGO sign! Only 1 more mile to go...what's that? 1.2? Oh crap!

Crossing the finish line...3:32:05...11:06 short of a BQ, but a 22+ minute PR!

Done! Wait til next year! Bring on Providence in 13 days...
EASTERN STATES 20 2010
No photographers and I forgot to ask the family to take some pictures, so imagine a beautiful, sunny Maine and New Hampshire day with a 15 mph headwind for 80% of the race.
SUPER SUNDAY 10K 2010

Making a move early

Looking for a passing lane

In a zone

The only shot of me at the finish...I'm way back there. PR: 39:29
CHILLY HALF MARATHON 2009

Finding a groove

Finding separation

Waving to the family

Looking to finish strong...1.1 to go!

"Don't stop!"

PR!!! 1:33:14
MANCHESTER CITY MARATHON 2009

Feeling good

Starting to feel the "wall" at around 14

Trying to stay upbeat at 24

Trying to smile for the wife and kids at 24.5...I was spent!!!

I'm gonna finish this thing dammit!

The finish line is right around the corner!!!

Gotta get in under 3:55!!!

Happy to be done! 1st marathon - 3:54:04
BOSTON RUN TO REMEMBER 2009

Found my buddy Mike about 3/4 of a mile in

Good luck in Boston – I will be running too —
Thanks Nancy! Good luck to you too!
We ran a lot of the same races! I ran the Eastern States 20 and the Providence Marathon too! And now I’m just starting to train for NY! Look forward to reading more.
Liz –
We will have to stay in touch for New York! Good luck with your training!
I noticed that when you land, you heel-strike in many of the pictures. That may have also been causing some of your pain (it caused a stress fracture for me). I think McDougall mentions it in Born to Run somewhere, but I just wanted to bring that to your attention as a fellow runner! Awesome job — keep up the great work 🙂
