How’s it going?
It’s February 1st. One month has passed since the new year.
Still sticking with it? Still strapping on the shoes and pounding out a few miles?
I hope so.
A few weeks a ago I was reading a variety of posts both lamenting and praising the “resolution runners” that were pouring into the gyms and onto the streets.
As runners we curse them for clogging up the treadmills and sidewalks, but at the same time hope that many of them will take running on as a regular part of their lives. Runners know that part of the solution to our problems with the Health Care System is running. A healthy nation puts less strain on the system.
Runners, as a whole, are a healthier bunch that tends to avoid many of the diseases associated with being a “bag o’ potato chips eating couch potato”. I know that most of my dailymile friends are still running. It’s what we do. We let each know what we’ve done and push each other with support and challenges.
But I wonder, are you still running?
or biking?
or swimming?
I hope that you are fighting through the powerful inertia that is your couch or bed. That you continue to fight to get to the point where if you haven’t run by the end of the day, you feel a little edgy. It is a wonderful feeling, knowing that you’re legs want to run. Scratch that. Need to run. It will get easier. The change, both physically, but more importantly mentally, is coming.
It’s only been 31 days.
Persist.
***IF you have lost momentum, so what? Today is the 1st day of a new month.
Nice motivational post and YES! I am still running. Being in Florida, we have had tons of additional volunteers at our races through the Give a Day, Get a Disney Day program. Many of these are families. It’s so exciting to hear people say, “I think I want to try running (or get back to running)”.
“Give a Day, Get a Disney Day” I might be tempted to skip the running and start volunteering!!! 🙂
I’m still running, swimming, and biking! I was a little lax in the pool in January, but I plan to fix that in February. Great post 🙂
i’m treading water.
i always think that if i tread water, it means i’m at least not losing ground. but i struggle with that next step…i’m definitely stuck on the treading water phase. i do that. moderate walking, running…that’s about it.
i’m excited about tomorrow. i assume i don’t even have to specify.
lost day. woo hoo. can’t wait. i have all of my predictions and guesses ready. i think? the first episode involves them landing in LA, as if the crash never happened.
the question is…which characters remember events, which don’t.
or, it could just be some off the wall stuff. lost excels at that. which i love.
I…Can…Not…Wait!!! I love you’re first episode prediction…sounds Lost-like!
Treading water is ok…it’s true. You’re not losing ground, but you don’t want to get stuck in a rut. A good friend of mine once suggested to change the speeds up a little when running on the treadmill. Slow down the pace and try and go 1/2 mile longer…speed up the pace and go 1/2 mile less. It will feel a little odd, but it will make you stronger and eventually faster (not significantly, but faster nonetheless). PLUS, you won’t have the treading water feeling anymore…at least not until the next time you’re in a pool.
I know what you are talking about with the “need” to run. I had an awful food weekend and missed my Sunday run and I feel like a caged animal. I can’t wait to get out tomorrow and run.
I really liked this post. I always hope those people that clog the machines at the gym will continue with their goal – not because they said they would, but because they realized it is the best thing they could do. Maybe if they join DM they would stick it out longer. 🙂
I know that being on dailymile has helped me to higher levels of running…the encouragement there is phenomenal!
It’s been 4 years now for me. When I think about my lifestyle before, it just boggles my mind. There’s just no going back now – it can be done!
well, i was right about lost and wrong.
they did land in los angeles.
and they didn’t.
i loved it. classic lost.
I totally thought of you when they opened with Jack on the plane! Awesome beginning of the end!
